I got fixed!

One of my besties, Sandra, joined this cult, Stitch Fix. Have you heard of it? You fill out a profile of likes and dislikes, price points, link to your clothing pinterest board (I know you have one), and they hand pick five pieces of clothing for you.

Once you receive the box of clothes, you try them on in the comfort of home, relish in the style cards, and decide what works and what doesn’t. Pay only for what you keep and send the rest back in the pre-paid envelope. If your friends tell the folks at Stitch Fix you recommended them, you get a credit towards your next Fix.

style cards

I won’t lie, I was totally in it for the cards. I am always looking for ways to make a clothing item work with different pieces in my current wardrobe.

A loyal Boden devotee, I was skeptical anyone else could provide clothes I would adore. Also, do I really need anymore clothes? I live in a tiny house after all! But hey, I DO love clothes and found the whole idea very compelling. I signed up for a fix. It takes a good long time for the first one to arrive, so definitely don’t sign up thinking you’ll have your clothes within the week.
The box arrived yesterday amid much excitement!! Thankfully my mailman is used to my online purchasing passion. Without further ado, here’s what I received and the results….

purple top
Item One: Richard Pleated Lace Detailed Blouse
This blouse is very similar to a style of blouse I already own in prints (yep, two of those babies), by Boden. They definitely hit my style. The color is really beautiful. The biggest fit difference between this and the ones I already own: this one has to be tucked in. Out it was too boxy and dowdy. Verdict: Likely headed back to headquarters.

Geo print

Ignore my red eyes. I had another flare up this weekend. While I have you looking at this photo. What about these shoes? Another trial online purchase from Hotter Shoes. Keepers? or not quite right?

Item Two: Colleen Geo Print Tie-Neck Blouse
SPOT ON! If I would’ve seen this shirt in a catalog (I do not brave store shopping) I would’ve snapped it up. The only iffy part for me was the fluttery sleeve, but in the geo print, I don’t think it looks too young. Verdict: KEEPER! (Vance said it was very “Cottonwood”. Hmmm. Good thing we’re retiring there!)

Item Three: Sophia Skinny Jeans (seen in both photos above)
Good gravy, these were a disaster. They looked good on for five seconds. Then they slid down and I had a two inch drooping crotch. Not attractive. I’m also not a fan of the worn knees look. I have to give them credit, I have no idea what size jeans I currently wear and they took a stab. Next time, smaller waist and longer inseam. Verdict: Already packaged for return.

color block
Item Four: Sloane Colorblock A-Line Ponte Shift Dress
They did their homework. The shift is a shape I wear a lot. The style and colors, oh so architectural. The fit was great from the color block down and loose on top. I had initially tossed it back with the jeans, but Vance said it didn’t look bad and this was his favorite garment in the box. Verdict: On the fence. It would be good for work….need to see how much it costs…

Item Five: Kathy Striped Fit & Flare Dress
Fantastic fit! Seriously, fantastic. This dress was made for me. I wasn’t sold on the little puff on the sleeve; it just doesn’t go with the dress in my opinion and I was surprised neither styling suggestion included a belt. This dress needs a belt. It had a nice thick weight to it too. Makes sense as everyone, except Hawaii, is prepping for Winter. Hubby said it looked very 80s. This was not a compliment. Verdict: Hitching a ride back with the jeans.

And the countdown begins. I have three, well two now, days to send back my unwanted items. PLEASE!!! Feel free to comment (button at top of this post) about the items posted.

  1. HOW COOL is this! I love them all! I thought the jeans looked fabulous but nobody wants a two inch dropping crotch (hate pants like that)!
My favorite is the block dress! I think it looks wonderful on you, like you should model the dress for them! Then I love the tie-neck blouse and the other dress. Those are my top 3! The shoes? LOVE!

    • I know, the saggy crotch is a big NO GO! Haha. Thank you!! for the comments and input on the shoes too. 🙂

  2. I love the shift dress on you and the jeans look good in the photos but forget it if they don’t fit well! I have had maybe 5 fixes and they say it takes a few to get it right. I kept all items in my last fix but did not like one top. Only reason I kept it was because I saved more by keeping it.

    • Thanks Aleah! Sandra and I were discussing that today, how wonderful it would be if you kept all five and got the discount! I’m planning to write lots of comments, so the next fix is even better!

  3. I think the color block dress, printed blouse, and shoes are keepers! You look fantastic in the color block dress!!

  4. First off, this company had one of those ideas that makes you say, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Definitely a GREAT idea. Especially with the whole keep-all-5-and-receive-discount part. They aren’t dumb! So that said, their clothes really could suck and it would all be for not. However, they’re WONDERFUL! You wanna know what? I would have kept all of the items except the shirt you picked. Ha! Well, the jeans looked amazing (hot on you, actually), but the droopy drawers are a deal breaker for sure. I really love the first top, even despite the tucking. I can see it being worn tucked with jeans (like you had it), skirts, even shorts. I love it. And I love both dresses on you too. I REALLY love the shift dress. You look like you were born to wear that dress. Either that or it has found its home on you. If you send it back I’m going to cry. I actually really like the sleeves on the striped dress and you’re right- it needs a belt. But it still looks great without one and with the necklace you paired it with. Oh, and I noticed the shoes before reading the caption and thought, “Those are super cute. Cuter than I’d pictured. Flower is just fine.” Enough commentary for ya, friend? Hehe

    • You know I love the commentary! Funny, you didn’t like the printed blouse. 🙂 I don’t think it’s a fan favorite. I will be keeping the color block dress for SURE!

    • Thanks Rachel!! I have to admit the striped one looks cuter in the photos than it did in person. 🙂
